Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Software Update. WHAT’S HAPPENING? Dept.vpn.gatech.edu AnyConnect VPN clients will be updated. The following servers will be affected. How to connect to VPN from Windows 10? I used to have the AnyConnect client installed but uninstalled it a while back. Now the.msi or.exe install file stops working at the end of installation. I just want to use the native VPN settings in Win10. I know the server is 'ipsec.vpn.gatech.edu' and the VNP type is L2TP/IPsec.   • Peer-evaluations go LIVE on Monday, April 19th and will stay open until Tuesday, April 27th at 4:00pm. Peer-evaluations are REQUIRED for all students and are an important part of your overall grade.
  • Once peer-evaluations are closed, the VIP program cannot re-open them. Please complete them as soon as possible so if you encounter an issue, we are able to help you.
  • An important component of the VIP team experience is peer evaluation. Students evaluate classmates with whom they work, with one evaluation at midterms and one at the end of each semester. Only instructors can view completed evaluations, and they use them in monitoring student progress. Students can only submit peer evaluations during active evaluation periods. Instructors can access evaluations at any time.

Per the syllabus, there is a grade penalty for not participating in the peer evaluation process. This is because teamwork is an important part of the VIP experience. Peer evaluations are one tool instructors use to monitor teamwork, along with observations during team meetings and your VIP notebooks.

Who do You Evaluate?

The first question in the evaluation is, 'How often do you work with each student?' If you did not work wtih a student and mark '1 (I do not know this person)' or '2', then the system will not have you evaluate that student. If your advisor instructs you to only evaluate your subteam, you will respond with '1' or '2' for students outside of your subteam.

Please report problems to vip-request@ece.gatech.edu. When you email, be sure to:
- Include your username, GTID, and VIP team name
- Include error messages the system is giving you (copy/paste)
- Describe when the error occurs (when you login, when you click submit, etc.)
- Include a screenshot if possible

Running the software remotely/off-campus

1. If you want to run Cadence or Synopsys software remotely from your PC running Windows, first make sure you are connected to the VPN network. On instructions for doing so click here.
**TA Tip: For Windows 10, after you have installed Cisco AnyConnect and you are attempting to connect to anyc.vpn.gatech.edu as instructed. If you get the message 'Failed to login' more than three times, you can try connecting to dev.vpn.gatech.edu as described here.

You will then need an X server software. Georgia Tech offers students FastX. The software and the installation directions are available through OIT. Instead of FastX, students have suggested MobaXTerm is easier to use. Use your GT username and password to log in. You can also use any other software that provides X window support such as Cygwin/X. OIT also provides SSH client software such as SecureCRT. They also provide WinSCP which allows you to transfer files between a remote computer and your PC

2. Install and run the X-server software of your choice.

3. If using FastX, click the '+' button then 'SSH' to add a new connection and type in the following info:

Name: ece-linlabsrv01.ece.gatech.edu
Host: Same as name
User: Your GT username

4. Click Save and then double-click your newly created connection to start a session.

5. A new window will pop up, and FaxtX will ask for your GT password.

6. In the new window, click on the '+' button, then select 'GNOME' and click 'OK'.

7. You are done. Connect to the ECE machine and run the software you want to run.

8. When you want to log out, please make sure you click on 'System' then 'Log out'.

Note: Cadence sometimes requires that you set the display of your computer to 256 colors.
